The autobiography of pop music mogul Jonathan King.

65 My Life So Far edition by Jonathan King Arts Photography eBooks

Most of my reading is focused on biographies and autobiographies about people in and around the music and entertainment business. This book, although dealing with subjects that some may find troubling, provided a great insight into Mr. King's life. I found his world outlook and sense of humor very entertaining. My only real knowledge about him had to do with his early pop hits and his dealings with rock band 10cc. His life story and business dealings are extremely insightful and full of entertaining moments. The fact that he is able to make the best of his unfair treatment at the hands of the British judicial system is inspiring to anyone who has been dealt a bad hand.
Recommended reading. 5 stars for the positive frame of mind and a beautifully written book.

65 My Life So Far edition by Jonathan King Arts Photography eBooks Reviews

Rudie may have not downloaded it recently because they seem to have improved the problem of pictures and captions getting muddled and it's now fine. This is an absolute MUST read for anybody interested in life in the world of music during the last century. King was slap in the middle of the British revolution. His more recent experiences are just as fascinating.
Not being overly familiar with Jonathan King's life or career aside from his recent unfortunate notoriety I was not hugely enthusiastic to read his autobiography when a good friend eagerly thrust it in to my hand.
Luckily my friend is very smart and I value their opinion rather highly so, with a little trepidation I forged ahead..... and thank goodness!
It turned out to be an enormously enjoyable and edifying experience.
Indeed it would be difficult to write a dull account of King's life, it having been led through the most swiftly changing and dynamic decades of the last century, but the sheer brio and audacity with which King describes his many exploits are sometimes nothing short of astonishing.
The often arrogant tone is somehow tempered by the consistency of it's use as the sheer force of king's self belief and ambition are too real to be derided; this isn't an arrogance born of insecurity it comes from a firmly held belief that he really does know best. This revelation puts in to context and explains to a degree the trouble King has often found himself in both professionally and personally.... always publicly.
In short this book paints the portrait of an extraordinary, truly eccentric and very English individual who doesn't so much dance to the beat of his own drum as stamp on the drum, throw it out of the window and pick up a kazoo. And as his recent forays in to film making, writing and his continual music production attest he's not nearly done yet!
They don't make them like this anymore; some would perhaps argue that is for the best, after reading this book I would disagree.
Many already have written a review so I will just focus on the things I found need more emphasis.

Jonathan King's book is a good read. The guy is intelligent but somehow I get the feeling he did not tell all. With this I don't mean the gossip about the people with whom he had sex or other hot stories but it is hard to imagine for someone intelligent to be so naive at many moments.
This 'naivety' sometimes become a bit unbelievable.

The only really point of criticism I have is not the content but the lay-out. I bought the digital version and all the pictures in the book are a disaster. They turn op at random on pages without the proper description.

If you want to know a different side of the music industry, described by someone who states himself that he does not have the musical talent to make it to the top, it is a fascinating read.
This is an 'easy to read' book that lives up to expectations, Jonathan King is renowned for his humongous ego, and despite his attempts to keep it under control, he still recounts a life story of someone who was a huge megastar; personally responsible to discovering, launching or steering virtually every major pop artist of the 60s 70s and even some in the 80s. This hype does give some interesting insights to the pop world, and some pop stars, but one quickly realises King had little to do with any of it, other than being a 'jester' on the side.
Throughout his career, he has been in the right place at the right time, but spectacularly blinkered - missing wonderful opportunities and failing to cash-in at any serious level.
Music industry apart, King comes across as a caring, genuine man, whose life was dominated by his mother's love.
His sexuality is hazy, having sex with both women and men - but in neither case does the emotion of 'love' seem to be part of the process. When he does talk of loving relationships, these have been with people with whom he did not have sex. It portrays a lonely, immature person who remains a spectator in most aspects of life.
The one aspect of the book which intrigues is his trial and conviction. Reading King's account, and also reading other accounts of the trial, one seriously wonders if he would have been found guilty today - I suspect not, we no longer believe accusers so easily, and have realised the Police deliberately construct a case from numerous minor charges in the hope to influence the Jury. However, once again King seemed happy to be an outsider to his own trial, happily allowing his legal team to pull all the strings, and do it badly.
Overall, a well written book, with interesting hindsight's into the pop scene, public school promiscuity, media incompetence, and the dangers of being in the Polices' sights.
The impression is that JK's 'sentence' still hangs heavily over him almost 10 years after being released. He needs shake off the past and start anew, in which case he may still achieve something important and write a more positive sequel to 65 My life so far
